Child Labor
Scoring Guide for Activity 4, Strategy 1 Scoring Guide: Check for Understanding
- There is a cheap labor supply: many people including children are involved
in low paying jobs in factories and in other dangerous occupations; the education
level for children is low; heath care is a concern; living conditions are
poor for the workers.
- Areas of Latin America and Africa are in similar stages of development;
however, concerns about child labor may exist in any part of the world where
a demand for cheap labor exists and living conditions allow for the exploitation
of children
- There are concerns about education, health concerns, working conditions,
safety concerns, hours and wages
- Many of the children from other areas of the world do not necessarily want
to ban child labor- they want to improve the conditions under which children
are allowed to work
